79 billion. As 1959 ended, it appeared that common-share owners would receive better than $9 billion, a new high and the largest amount ever distributed. All this, too, has been on the general basis of a pay-out of about 50 per cent of earnings, or somewhat less than United States corporations were in the habit of distributing prior to World War II. Investment for income is generally a long-term proposition. It implies stability. And it makes particularly good sense for people who do not expect to become market experts or security analysts.

UK markets and gold trading

I think there's very little actually happens out there on the political front. Nobody seems to be coming up with wonderful ideas about us out of the current mess and even the opposition seems to be going through the "Yah boo sucks' motions. This is really baffling as if the lords and masters are waiting for some piece of news was disastrous only looming on the horizon.

The rate cut last time seemed to be a very strange, almost as if the Bank of England was throwing in the towel. The current economic situation (as we see at this time) in not really worth the interest rates so ridiculously low levels, although I realize that this is very difficult to agree with if the job or the company is currently on the line.

The market reaction to the latest round of cuts has been rather soft and investors may begin to feel a little nervous if a break out does not occur before.

Interest rates are 4% below levels of last summer and fall, yet the equity market continues struggling to recover (with yields of over 6% on average for the FTSE 100 ). It sometimes becomes difficult to align with the valuations and, obviously, fear remains the dominant factor greed a good bit further down the agenda.

The current scandal on bank bonuses rather misses the point. Yes, those involved in the units that lost all the money should not receive bonuses, but most units in RBS and Lloyds etc actually made money. It is asking rather a lot of people to "give" bonuses for a year (Possibly two) of their working lives.

If you look at the correlation with a double glazing salesman, will make its commission or not the company makes money. Politicians must be careful not to cover all bank staff as not being worthy of remuneration for their efforts. Gordon Brown has not exactly been a star performer himself same.

In February 2009 the Prime Minister, referring to bank bonuses, said "[the United Kingdom was] sweeping aside the old culture of short-term bonds the past and replacing it first with a determination that there is no reward for failure and, secondly, that there are rewards only for success long term. "

No rewards for failure ... At what price to sell gold is Gordon?

When he was Minister of Finance held 17 auction to sell half of the United Kingdom 's reserves of gold between 1999 and 2002. Product sales were $ 3.5billion around. If gold was sold in 2008 / 1st quarter of 2009 would have raised $ 10-11 billion.

Of course, Mr Brown did also say that there would be "more boom and bust." Now However, this should not be taken as investment advice but do not think Gordy bets on gold . Or any other market for that matter.

Please note that spread bets carry a high level of risk and may not be suitable for all kinds of investors. Only trade with money you can afford to lose. Make sure to fully understand the risks involved. If necessary, seek independent financial advice.
